- Decide whether to add insurance. (You can decline Adobe’s Car Protection* if your credit card includes it—but heads up: Costa Rica law means you’re personally on the hook until damages are paid. (I usually just get the insurance to keep things stress-free.)

Which Rental Car Should You Choose?
Picking the right car is the key to saving even more.
Do you need a 4×4?
- Dry season, main attractions (La Fortuna, Manuel Antonio, etc) + main highways = 4×2 is totally fine.
- Rainy season or rural adventures (Nosara, Monteverde, Drake Bay) = Definitely get a 4×4.
- Around the Central Valley? = Save big with a sedan
How much space do you need?
- Light packers (4 people or fewer; 1 suitcase each) = Geely GX3 or Hyundai Creta
- Families with lots of luggage = Hyundai Tucson or larger
- Note- Adobe does rent trucks, minivans, and SUVs with a third row for bigger groups/families.
Stick shift or automatic?
If you can’t drive a manual, make sure to request an automatic! I can’t tell you how many times I have forgotten this! It’s the worst because my husband doesn’t drive stick and I am stuck driving everywhere.
